STOP TORY STEALTH TAXES – SCROLL DOWN TO SIGN THE PETITION NOW

Conservative Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps is forcing TfL to expand the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) to include all of Sutton.

We all want clean air, and a well-funded transport system, but additional charges for drivers during a cost of living crisis is just another Tory stealth tax.
Currently, ony 82% of cars in outer London are ULEZ compliant. We have seen scrappage and upgrade schemes in the past so why not now?

Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps * is forcing London mayor Sadiq Khan to extend the ULEZ to the whole of London, with a daily charge of £12.50 for non-compliant vehicles, as a condition of TfL receiving Government funding. Shapps is making motorists pay to subsidise TfL instead of giving proper funding to our capital’s public transport system – the Government is playing political games with London.

In his previous letter, Shapps said he “expected Londoners to pay more through a supplement to their council tax to help improve TfL’s finances”. This is despite TfL having grants withdrawn and being forced to run at full capacity during the pandemic when private rail firms weren’t.

Local Conservative MP Elliot Colburn has been misled by his own party and is erroneously calling on Sadiq Khan to abandon the ULEZ extension when it’s actually his own Government which is responsible.

Together we can stop another stealth tax and combat misinformation, whilst ensuring clean air and sustainable vehicle upgrade schemes.

Petition to Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps to fund TfL from Government not from ULEZ charges

We all want clean air for London, and extending the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) will improve our air quality. But charging motorists £12.50 a day without offering help to upgrade their vehicles is just not fair. Whose idea was this - it was imposed on London by Government Transport Secretary Grant Shapps who has cut TfL funding and is forcing the extension of ULEZ without offering financial help to motorists. We call on Grant Schapps to properly fund TfL in line with other major capital cities, and to fund scrappage schemes and grants for upgrade to ULEZ compliant vehicles.
