Which is more important, the soaring cost of living, or the increase in Sutton’s parking charges?
Your Labour Councillors called on the Government to reinstate the £20 a week Universal Credit uplift, extend the free school meals program, remove VAT on home energy bills, and increase the windfall sum paid to those who need it most to £600, as well as cutting small business rates. This was voted down by the Conservative group. What did they propose instead? Cut parking charges and the cost of parking permits. A worthy aim no doubt, but it’s only going to save residents an average of 4p each, which is not going to help with the £3,000 energy bills we have been warned about.
